This was a book I didn’t know I needed。 I never watched One Tree Hill so I didn’t even know who Hilarie Burton was when I picked up the book, I just thought it sounded like it could be amusing listening to a star try to make it in the country。 What it really was was an endearing book about small town life, friendship, relationship, and some amusing animals。 Also her struggles with infertility were very meaningful for me at this time。 There were definitely tears。 I listened to audio and really en This was a book I didn’t know I needed。 I never watched One Tree Hill so I didn’t even know who Hilarie Burton was when I picked up the book, I just thought it sounded like it could be amusing listening to a star try to make it in the country。 What it really was was an endearing book about small town life, friendship, relationship, and some amusing animals。 Also her struggles with infertility were very meaningful for me at this time。 There were definitely tears。 I listened to audio and really enjoyed her voice and hearing the emotion she shared but I think this could be just as enjoyable in book form。 。。。more

I needed something light to mix in with my heavy reads and this filled the bill。 Hillarie made me laugh, met my need to read about life on a farm, escaping the crazy life of acting。 It nurtured my love of children, animals, living in community, and making life better for a diverse group of people。 I wasn’t sure I liked the format of recipes that disrupted the story。 Would rather have had them at the end of a chapter。 Also did not think all the crude words helped。 They just detracted from a beaut I needed something light to mix in with my heavy reads and this filled the bill。 Hillarie made me laugh, met my need to read about life on a farm, escaping the crazy life of acting。 It nurtured my love of children, animals, living in community, and making life better for a diverse group of people。 I wasn’t sure I liked the format of recipes that disrupted the story。 Would rather have had them at the end of a chapter。 Also did not think all the crude words helped。 They just detracted from a beautiful authentic story and will keep me from giving the book to many friends and family members who are sick and tired of today’s popular f words in movies and books。 I like her three R’s: Risk, Reinvention, and Reward。 。。。more

I loved hearing about their journey to farm ownership and learning about her relationship with Jeffery Dean Morgan! I also had some great take aways for our future homestead!

I need a physical copy of this so I can make all of her recipes。 I need that rhubarb jam! This book was so great。 It was mostly fun, with a few deeper personal stories peppered in。 I loved every minute of hearing about Hilarie and Jeffrey's small town farm life。 I need a physical copy of this so I can make all of her recipes。 I need that rhubarb jam! 5 starsSo, I thought that I was just in a bad reading mood, and that it was me, not the books。 It turns out that it's mostly the books, and only partially me。 I was doing a thing I do periodically, where I move books that I have loaded (but not read) to the top/front of my device/app and get the other books that I've read but like to have instantly hanging around (instead of having to go through the massive effort to download them when I want to read them again) further down the list。 I opened t 5 starsSo, I thought that I was just in a bad reading mood, and that it was me, not the books。 It turns out that it's mostly the books, and only partially me。 I was doing a thing I do periodically, where I move books that I have loaded (but not read) to the top/front of my device/app and get the other books that I've read but like to have instantly hanging around (instead of having to go through the massive effort to download them when I want to read them again) further down the list。 I opened this one up and read a few pages。 And then read a few more。 The next thing I knew, I was at 60%, I hadn't exercised or had supper, and I needed to turn the light on。This was very engaging and eminently readable。 Sometimes, when you read books by celebrities, especially actors, you just feel as as though they are still acting when they tell their stories。 This did not。 It felt honest, as if I was catching a glimpse of Hilarie and her family and friends and lives。 Not everything was perfect, not even herself, and every event was just so relatable, even if I've never been (and, hopefully, never will be) famous。 The fact that I started crying over her family's story, even though I mostly knew how it went, was incredible to me。 I generally only cry over people I personally know。。。or fiction。Well written, nothing that felt false, and a style that drew me in。 I would definitely read another book by the author, whether it be non-fiction or fiction。 。。。more

Her concern for others and the welfare of her town was very evident。 The recipes were a fun addition to the book。 I found myself intrigued by her “Magic Potion” and gave it a try。 It’s definitely earthy, as she warned! Hilarie was very open about her relationship with Jeffrey and her depression over her miscarriages, and I appreciated that raw honesty。 I loved how she just jumped into a small town life of farming, never caring when Jeff brought another animal home。 I love that family is always first for her。 I love that she has found so much love in a simple life (although I was expecting her childhood dream of owning a Christmas tree farm to eventually emerge)。 It’s exactly what I want for myself。 Only not on a farm! 。。。more

4。5 stars! I’m kind of blown away by how much I enjoyed this book!I stumbled upon it when a goodreads friend left it a glowing review。 I decided to check out the audiobook and I am so glad I did。 I’m what I consider the One Tree Hill generation, I was 14 when the show started and remember everyone at my high school talking about it。 I wasn’t a consistent watcher, nor would I consider myself a huge fan of Hilarie Burton, but I knew who she was。What I loved most about this memoir was it was very 4。5 stars! Reading “The Rural Diaries” was an amazing experience! This book was beyond an expectations I even remotely had before reading。 I have been an avid One Tree Hill fan for almost a decade now, so Hilarie Burton's book was one that I saw promoted and thought, "Hmm, maybe that'd be interesting。。。" Eventually, I picked it up entirely by chance, and I finished it within 7 hours。 It is a wonderfully honest story of love, heartbreak, vulnerability, growth, and small-town charm。 Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of One Tree Hill, enjoys an honest story This book was beyond an expectations I even remotely had before reading。 I have been an avid One Tree Hill fan for almost a decade now, so Hilarie Burton's book was one that I saw promoted and thought, "Hmm, maybe that'd be interesting。。。" Eventually, I picked it up entirely by chance, and I finished it within 7 hours。 It is a wonderfully honest story of love, heartbreak, vulnerability, growth, and small-town charm。 Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of One Tree Hill, enjoys an honest story, or anyone looking for a legitimate memoir that tells the truest highs and lows in the most enjoyable narrative fashion。 。。。more

As a loyal OTH fan, this has been on my reading list for a while。 Added bonus that her hubby is one of my fave Grey’s characters as well 💯 This book describes Hilarie’s decision to leave LA & NYC for life on a farm。 She touches on every past decision that made her crave distance from the big cities as well as all the triumphs and challenges of her new life in a small town。 Although they are both actors, Hilarie and Jeffery’s story is sweet, authentic and shockingly relatable。 They almost made me As a loyal OTH fan, this has been on my reading list for a while。 Added bonus that her hubby is one of my fave Grey’s characters as well 💯 This book describes Hilarie’s decision to leave LA & NYC for life on a farm。 She touches on every past decision that made her crave distance from the big cities as well as all the triumphs and challenges of her new life in a small town。 Although they are both actors, Hilarie and Jeffery’s story is sweet, authentic and shockingly relatable。 They almost made me want to live on a farm。。。 almost。 If you’re a fan of either of these actors or are just looking for a more unique take on the celeb memoir, this is a great read! 。。。more
